My name is Eneida del
Socorro Góngora Sánchez. I was born in the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco,
Mexico, into a family where hard work and perseverance were core values. From
an early age, my curiosity about how things work and the impact we have on
society led me to study Economics at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de
Tabasco. Along the way, I was fortunate to have exceptional mentors,
professors, supervisors, colleagues, friends, and leaders, as well as the
unconditional support of my family, who taught me that we must strive to be
good people, to be rather than merely
appear to be, and that knowledge should always be placed at the service of
others.
My professional career began in the private
sector, later continuing at the Fundación Empresarial Tabasco and subsequently
with service companies linked to PEMEX, where I came to understand the
magnitude of both the challenges and the opportunities within the Mexican
energy sector. The experience I gained in exploration and production allowed me
to contribute to projects of national relevance, collaborate with diverse
teams, undertake an entrepreneurial venture in Peru with the company Zep-Tech
Geophysical, and assume my first executive position for Latin America with
Geocenter de Colombia. I also had a rewarding experience in the public sector
at Mexico’s Secretariat of Energy. Later, at Wintershall DEA and currently at
Harbour Energy México, I have specialized in offshore project planning, the
management of technical committees, and the oversight of decision-making
processes involving multiple stakeholders.
In parallel, I decided to promote women’s
leadership in the energy industry as President of the Women’s Energy Network
Mexico since 2023, an organization I have been part of since 2018. I am deeply
convinced that gender equity is not only a matter of justice but a necessity
for the future of energy. Leading this organization has allowed me to build
support networks and create spaces for dialogue to promote the talent of
professional women across various fields in Latin America, while also providing
mentorship for both national and international organizations. Each step, event,
and strategic alliance has been an opportunity to transform the culture of the
sector and to demonstrate that diversity multiplies solutions and strengthens
outcomes.
Not everything has been easy. Confronting
resistance to change and gender stereotypes has posed significant personal and
professional challenges. I learned to manage uncertainty and fear, transforming
them into motivation, structure, and discipline. My greatest achievement has
not been a single milestone, but rather the sum of many small victories:
breaking barriers, building resilient teams, and witnessing other women gain
confidence and claim their rightful places within organizations. Each failure
has taught me the value of humility and adaptability; each success, the
fulfillment that comes from going beyond what was once expected.
There is a phrase that has always guided me: “Be the kind of leader you wished for” -
Simon Sinek. This conviction has shaped my actions and vision, both in
strategic projects and in social initiatives. Creating environments where
learning is continuous and where each person can discover their full potential
has been my most enduring goal.
Today, as I reflect on my journey, I can proudly
say that I have learned to see change as an opportunity and adversity as a
place for growth. My advice to those seeking to move forward or reinvent
themselves is that there are no linear paths, winding roads and crossroads
often bring the most valuable lessons. Authenticity, ethics, commitment, and
collaboration are the most powerful tools we have to transform realities.
My story is, above all, the sum of encounters,
challenges, and shared dreams. I invite those who read this to embrace their
own stories, to recognize their achievements, and to imagine new ways of making
a positive impact on their surroundings. I have accomplished all of this
accompanied by my truest affections, and that, for me, is cause for
celebration.
